Need ideas for how to use Sunbrella fabrics in your next interior design project? Sophie Donelson of EditorTV interviews four Perspective New York interior designers – Brian Patrick Flynn, Brian Paquette, Kate Jackson and Drew McGukin – to find out how their perspective on Sunbrella fabric has changed. Here are some tips for incorporating luxurious Sunbrella fabrics into your home.
Don’t be afraid to take risks with color and texture.
Though he has always disliked pastels, interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn embraced Sunbrella fabrics in soft Easter egg hues for his Perspective New York vignette. Flynn’s colorful interior design combines pastel Sunbrella fabrics in a range of interesting textures with masculine accessories for a look that is both sophisticated and cool. Because Sunbrella fabrics are cleanable and durable, a light pink sofa can be a bold interior design statement and not an accident waiting to happen.
Incorporate durable Sunbrella fabrics into high-traffic areas.
Early in his career, interior designer Brian Paquette always thought of Sunbrella fabric as an outdoor fabric. Now, he recommends Sunbrella fabric for anyone with kids or pets and in high-traffic areas of the home that see a lot of general wear. “People are spending good money on upholstery and they want it to last for a while, so [using Sunbrella fabric] is just kind of common sense,” Paquette said.
Rhode Island-based interior designer Kate Jackson agreed with Paquette, citing durability, longevity and fade-resistance as some of the top attributes of Sunbrella fabrics for the home. Jackson’s interior design featured colorful Sunbrella fabrics in an imaginative children’s playroom that can stand up to the messes that tend to follow kids wherever they go.
The sky’s the limit.
For interior designer Drew McGukin, sourcing Sunbrella fabrics for his Perspective New York vignette was an enlightening and fun experience. The availability of Sunbrella fabrics in a range of colors, patterns and textures inspired McGukin’s fashion-forward, contemporary interior design.
